Arthur's Pizza - Randwick

Arthur's Pizza 01.jpg

Arthur’s Pizza at the Spot has been around the block for some time. It has always been a favorite pre- or post-movie hang out for us as students around the corner. Over the years, apart from a short period of time that the quality dipped (I think they changed hands or management during that period), my friends and I have been regulars over there. There were no surprises there, but just great pizzas that we enjoyed again and again.

Locating at the Spot in the Randwick, Arthur’s Pizza has a lot of nearby competition in terms of choices for food. However, what I liked about this place is its consistency of taste and quality (again, apart from that period when the quality dipped). Also, there food being quite reasonably priced makes it easier for me to make the decision to either dine in or take away. To be honest with you, if they are of similar pricing, I would, on any day, prefer to order take away from a local joint than a chain delivery. After all, I wanted to support the local community.

The thing with Arthur’s Pizza is that when I walked pass and smelled their pizza, it is hard to not get one, especially after a long day at work on my way home. Sometimes you just wanted to have a good pizza and binge watch some good bad TV or Netflix. My all-time favorite has always been their supreme pizza with anchovies. I love anchovies on pizza, it is like an addiction, I think pizza without anchovies are not completed. But that’s a digression. I think 90% of my time there or buying take away from there was this pizza. The thing with the supreme pizza is that if you don’t like pineapple on pizza, it is definitely not for you. But I love pineapple on pizza because they balance out the flavours with ingredients like lamb sausage and pepperoni. That’s the kind of flavour I like – balanced and well executed. With additional anchovies (at added cost) it adds the required fragrance to the pizza that it smells and tastes good. Usually for an average person, a medium pizza at $16 will be sufficient, but if I was very hungry, I would go for the large one at $22 (quite large too) and still devour it within like 20 minutes. The pizza is that good (and you have to finish it while it is hot and crispy right?)

If I went there with friends, we usually share. So apart from the supreme pizza, the Mexican and seafood specials are the regulars. The Mexican pizza is just spicy enough without overpowering all the other ingredients such as bacon and mushroom, and the seafood on the seafood special is always fresh, tasty and proper (in terms of not cheap frozen marina mix that you get in some places). If you have 3 friends and each ordered one to share, it is still like $16 each without drinks for 3 medium pizza.

Of course, apart from pizza Arthur’s serves other food too. Their pasta and salads are equally good. The pasta there are very reasonably priced from the basic Napolitana at $10 to Marina at $18. They are all reasonably sized so you won’t feel hungry after finishing them. The salads are always fresh and that is extremely important for me.

In the recent years, Arthur’s Pizza also has a lunch menu at $10, which is, for me extremely value for money. The selection is not as expansive as the regular menu but considering you can get a small pizza for $10 or a medium pizza for $12 from the full pizza menu, I couldn’t think of a reason to say no to it. After all, it is at the Spot! Strangely enough, risotto is offered on the lunch menu but not on the regular menu. If you are in a hurry to get home from work and don’t feel like cooking, as I said previously, there is a takeaway deal before the ends at 7pm every day, where you can get a medium pizza from the pizza menu for $12. Extremely value for money in my opinion, as just consider all the cooking and washing you are spared of with that $12! If you are going to the movies at the Randwick Ritz, I think they have a movie and pizza deal, although I do not know whether it is still happening during this pandemic period.

All in all, Arthur’s Pizza is like an evergreen tree at the Spot for me. If I really couldn’t make up my mind what to get for dinner or lunch, Arthur’s Pizza at the Spot is always my saving grace. Judging from the long lines and crowds of take away and dine in people there, you will definitely have the confident that your taste buds will be satisfied.
