Pho and Go may not have the most expansive menu in town but it is really good at doing what it said – have a Pho and go on with your day.
Diagonally opposite to the Royal Randwick Shopping Mall towards the Alison Road way, Pho and Go, according to my Vietnamese colleague, is one of the most authentic eat in take away for Pho.
Honestly, I have not tried any other things on the menu apart from their Pho, but that’s because I usually go there when I need a quick meal and then get back to work. In that respect, Pho and Go never disappoints.
The concept of Pho and Go is quite simple – you order a base Pho that have 10 choices for $14.50 and then if you want to add extra meat, vegetables, tofu or noodles, you pay extra. That’s the foundation for a quick and delicious meal.
For me I usually just have a variety of beef from rare beef to their beef balls or a combination of them as I always feel that pho tastes best with beef. I know it’s just me but that’s how I like it 😊. If you are not into beef, they have vegetarian and tofu options and chicken options. There are always choices.
If you want to have some sides for your pho, you can choose from a selection of 4 basic sides from rice paper rolls to spring rolls and salt and pepper ribs. The selection may be small but then it is about a quick meal, so why burn your brain with complicating choices?
Too hot for noodle soup? Pho and Go also has some noodle salad for you to choose from to chase away the heat while having a meal. And if you are in the mood for some rice, then you can also order from a selection of 4 rice dishes.
In all my experience there service is really quick. From ordering to getting the food it is almost as quickly as Thanos snapping his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War. For me the challenge is how much time do I need to chomp down the yummy bowl of pho in front of me.
One of the aspects I liked most about Pho and Go is that despite the rich taste of that clear broth, I never felt thirsty afterwards. For me that is a testimony of non-artificial flavouring of the soup base, which is quite important to me. Also, the serving of mint leaves and sprouts is so generous that I felt like I am having two meals for the price of one – but do try to use them all when you go there. We don’t want to waste any food when some other parts of the world are still starving right? If you want to add some spice to the pho, there are free chilli, chilli paste and chilli oil etc. for you to add to your pho. I do like to add some chilli oil to mine at times.
Pho and Go is only a small shop, you can hardly seat more than 10 people without feeling crowded. But considering that the service is quick so getting takeaway instead of dining in is not that much of an issue. In fact, during lunch hours (the service time I was usually there), a lot of locals do order takeaways instead of dining in.
Staff members at Pho and Go are also friendly and courteous, despite of the eat in and take away nature. I think that’s additional points for a quick meal, as you won’t feel like they are trying to chase you away as soon as you finished your last noodle (though don’t just sit around doing nothing for hours as they need to accommodate other hungry hippos too!).
