The Unbearable Insaneness of Being

For people who don’t understand why it is an issue Scott Morrison took a holiday in secrecy during one of the worst bush fire seasons in Australia, nothing will wake you up. You will typically:

  • Continue to blame leftists / greens for causing the bush fire

  • Continue to deny climate change is a factor

  • Continue to dish out baseless claims against evidence and facts presented before you

  • Continue to yell over other people during discussions to shut people down while playing victim in the process about your freedom of speech

  • Continue to troll other people’s social media simply because they don’t agree with your views

  • Continue to name call other people to incite 1950s cold war hatred and fear

  • Continue to live your life of entitlement and privilege simply because you can

The truth is we can’t stop these people because most of these people are in power and in an organised mob. They feared changes that would cost them, personally or business-wise. They invested so much in their politicians to continue to live a life of entitlement because they thought they worked hard and deserved it.

I am all for working hard, but we do live in a world that we need to share with other people. Selling your resources and assets while destroying the environment is not how we share the world with other people. By this, I am referring to both and multiple sides of our modern politics.

Government politics, while it is about strategies to stay in power, is not just about staying in power. The original purpose of politics has the basic idea of offering the best to the society. When all the so called politicians are not here for what is best for the society but about what is best for them and their friends, they needed to be called out. The far right e.g. Murdoch Empire are organised and will not hesitate to coordinate concerted attacks to people they hate or felt being threatened by. The current wave of populism is being enabled by them as they disguised themselves as central, factual and unbiased while churning stories and commentaries contrary to what they claimed to be. However, since they are concerted efforts, people are easily tricked into believing them, especially for the generation or sectors who are less prone to find out more. For instance the way the Liberals and LNP trying to trick older people and the Chinese community by presenting themselves as one of them to vote for them (anyone remember the Chinese signs they put up in the Chinese community disguised as official instructions from the Electoral Office?) is how they exploit for votes.

For some facts are too hard, evidence sounds too burdensome, and that is the issue here. Our Government’s attempt to suppress facts through various means e.g. budget cuts to ABC leading to the disappearance of fact checking division, repeated efforts to destroy whistleblowers and intimidating journalists via repeated raids are attempts to suppress facts so they can build a reality that would be advantageous for them.

Scott Morrison’s way of treating the bush fire is basically treating all Australians who are affected by the bush fires in contempt. He:

  • Refused to meet with experts of bush fires and refused to take precautions

  • Told people volunteer fire fighters were there to fight fires because they wanted to be there and refused to provide additional resources to support to them

  • Did not announce his absence during this period because he knows it will not sit well with the public

  • Instructed his office to lie and kill the stories when being questioned

  • Went into hiding until pictures of him from the public confirmed his presence in Hawaii

  • Stayed silence and inaction until two young fathers got killed trying to fight the fires

  • Shifted the blame to the public by implying he had done nothing wrong but the only regret he has was ‘you guys had to feel that way’

  • Tried to present himself as a family man while failing to acknowledge that now two young families will have no father to spend Christmas with

A lot of people talked about what leadership is and what are required of leaders. Scott Morrison, who is a firm supporter of Donald Trump considered the best way to be a Prime Minister is to be like Donald Trump: sit there do nothing and just put out occasional factless and baseless PR soundbites.

Scott Morrison and his tailored suit mob will continue to do what they are good at but what do common Australians want? Do you want to find an easy way out by not fact checking, put status quo vote through and perpetuate lies and irresponsibility? Do you want to just believe and then found out all our resources were being sold and out sourced while local farmers, rural towns and our natural environments are being destroyed? Those are your questions to answer and your responsibilities to take.

As for the rest of us who have the abilities to put our hearts and minds together to help redirect Australia back on a reasonable and sane course, it is our job to work together in a consistent manner to fight against the far right mega-machine. You don’t need to be left or central, you just need to put aside the differences and focus on what is the most important goal you tried to achieve and go for it. Target what the far rights are best in doing and use them against them. The best tactics is to use your opponents’ tactics, refine them and use them back against them.

I personally feel that mankind is suffering a serious case of unbearable insaneness of being. It is up to us to do something or we are just leading ourselves full speed down the self-destruction path, whether you like it or not.
