In God We Lie

Scott Morrison is a stern fast God loving Christian who believes it is God’s calling for him to run the country.

The Ninth Commandment in the Bible – ‘You Shall Not Lie’

Journalist: ‘Do you think Scott Morrison lied to you?’

Emmanuel Macron: ‘I don’t think, I know’

For me, I can never understand how some modern Christians can knowingly support a Prime Minister and political party that runs a government by lies and deceit, both domestically and internationally.

For me, it seems to me for those people, as long as they can see that the Christian flag is being raised, all principles do not matter, because Christianity is being seen. At the same time, these same people wondered why modern Christianity is on the decline in the western world.

I am not a model Christian. I believe my relationship with God is mine and mine only. I am happy to discuss my faith with others, and if they are interested lead them to the path I believe is right. But it is not my job to use Christianity to destroy other people’s lives simply because you think your own is the purest, most sacred and best.

So, for a self-proclaimed Christian such as Scott Morrison who uses lying without remorse as a tool for self-gains and promotion, I do have serious issues with.

Lying as a politician is bad enough. Lying as a leader of a country is worse. But lying as a leader of a country both domestically and internationally, while trying to convince Christian voters to vote for him because he is a ‘Christian’ is the worst.

From the very start, Scott Morrison has only one principle as a Prime Minister – Lie First; If Lie Failed, Throw People Under the Bus.

A lot of us still remember during the time when half of Australia was burning, Scott Morrison went to Hawaii for holiday quietly, probably knowing that it will not sit well with Australians if they found out. When people started asking questions, the PM Office said they were just rumours and have no grounds. That’s until someone in Hawaii posted a wild life captured picture of him partying there. No grounds became damage control, and when he came back the excuse was he wanted to be a good dad to fulfil his promise, without acknowledging that a few days earlier, two volunteer fire fighting dads lost their lives protecting others, and their families now have no dads for the rest of their lives.

A similar situation happened when he took a sightseeing trip in UK while he was supposed to be at work there, while the rest of Australia was still in lockdown and international borders were still closed. He said it was an impromptus side stop but then eventually it was revealed that it was planned for a while to ensure the logistic works within his time schedule in the UK.

When Scott Morrison invited a friend, Brian Houston, to the White House dinner, originally it was not any big issue. It was his friend, it was his invitation to dinner. However, at that time that friend was under investigation for his alleged role in child sexual abuse, which would reflect badly on him both in terms of judgment and association at a diplomatic and moral level. As per usual he refused to admit such invitation exist, and branding the media as gossiping without grounds. Only months later, when being pressed repeatedly that he admitted that there was such an invitation.

We can say that these are his personal matters, certainly he thinks so, without thinking that he is the Prime Minister of Australia, until he wants to get something done in his favour.

Then came the Sport Rorts and the Carpark Rorts.

When it was reported that funding was disproportionally granted to secure seats right before the last election, Scott Morrison was initially extremely bullish and claimed innocence. However, as more and more documents revealed that the PM Office was involved throughout, he still claimed innocence and threw his Ministers and staff under the bus. When it was further revealed that he was involved in the decision making, contrary to what he claimed, he changed the subject to ‘the practice is normal’ but ‘despite his advice, the decision is up to the officials’. After months of repeatedly lying to the press and the Australian people, Scott Morrison still refused to admit that he lied and simply throw other people under the bus so he can shed himself of any responsibilities, despite he was responsible.

When the Britany Higgins Parliament Rape case was exposed, Scott Morrison initially denied that the PM Office knew anything about it. He insisted that should the PM Office knew about it something would be done. As per usual, he threw his Minister under the bus to try to escape responsibilities. When eventually, all evidence pointed to the PM Office was being informed all this time but did nothing, at an interview, he simply said along the line of, ‘If Britany wants to see me to talk about it, she could make an appointment with me, but I haven’t seen one’. The lack of compassion and lying about the knowledge of this incident is one thing, victim blaming while claiming that he believes in women’s right is one of the biggest lies and hypocrisies you can expect from Scott Morrison.

Then the latest saga with France completely exposed him as a pathological liar. Despite trying to win the argument against France by leaking personal text messages to the media during the convention period, the text messages leaked had, in no point in time, indicated that Scott Morrison had informed France that Australia is going to pull out of the contractual agreement with France. Not only that he was an opportunist without moral values, but he was also a coward that tried to victim blame France by leaking personal messages to the press, hoping to win the argument through the press, instead of managing the issue resulting from his chronic lying.

The truth is, Scott Morrison will continue to lie to and to mislead Australians as long as he is in power. Whether the Australian society will punish a pathological liar like Scott Morrison is yet to be seen. However, if you really believe in Christianity, the real Christianity that treasures empathy, compassion, love and honesty, can you still call yourself a Christian if you vote for a party that uses lies and deceits to win elections and run the country for their own gains and their donors’ benefit?

Are you a Christian who says, ‘In God We Trust’?

Or you are Christian who favours, ‘In God We Lie’.
